How can we use technology to get parents more engaged with the physical education department?
Physical education and technology has become a very hot topic in todays society. It would be very beneficial to any school system if they could incorporate exercise, parents and technology.
One way to engage parents is asking them to motivate their children to be physically active outside of school. Students can download a fitness tracking app that tracks activities such as jogging, biking, or walking. The parents can motivate their children by doing the activities with them or making sure they log their workouts at least twice a week. A free app they can use is called "MapMyRun," this way the workouts can be provided to the teacher.
Courtney that's a great idea! Using an app to organize and maintain your fitness goals would be great. I have a difficult time tracking my own workout plans and ideas so I know this would be very beneficial to keep students on the right path. by using this app parents can also monitor their children fitness goals and progress.
you could also ask parents to become more involved in activities like jump rope for heart and field day all of which can incorporate technology in different blogs and wiki's helping incorporate technology. With older students you can use fit for life apps and my fitness pal
Those are three great ideas to incorporate technology. I have not had a chance to experience any of these programs but i will look forward to making them happen in the near future. I have heard many great things about them all.
